Paula teaches Design Foundations, Typography, Branding, Packaging, UX and anything else that involves ideas, words and images. She earned her MFA degree from the University of Utah. Paula's design practice focuses on branding and websites for values-focused small businesses, information graphics and publications for non-profits and social good projects in any medium. When she's not designing or teaching design, you'll find her on a trail somewhere chasing views and soaking up the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

John Gialanella is an Associate Professor of Print Production at Western Washington University. He earned his BFA from Siena Heights University and his MFA from the University of Arizona. Gialanella’s work focus is primarily in print and publication design, as well as personal projects in the form of artist books. Since 2016, he has been working through AIGA on design for social change, teaming with other designers to develop Parallel: A Game of Design, a table-top card game introducing creative professions to middle and high school students in areas underserved by the arts.

Austin Shaw has worked as a Motion Designer for clients including Target, Ferrari, Fedex, McGraw Hill, Ralph Lauren, and VH1. Before WWU, he taught at the Savannah College of Art and Design and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He is a generalist with strengths in illustration, photo-collage, typography, 2D animation, 3D animation, compositing, and creative editing. Austin is the Author of Design for Motion: Fundamentals and Techniques of Motion Design. He teaches a range of courses from introductory through advanced. With a life-long passion for learning, Austin enjoys mentoring students and helping them to achieve their creative goals.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Cristina de Almeida came to the United States to pursue graduate studies in Visual Design at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Along with client-based design projects, she engages in experimental work exploring the visual qualities of written language through several media ranging from artist’s books to wall hangings. Her books have been exhibited across the country and abroad including the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Stockwell Studios in London, and Australian Galleries in Melbourne.

Kacey Morrow primarily teaches with a focus on motion design, digital video, web, interaction, and user experience design. Her award-winning experimental videos have appeared in several film festivals and exhibitions nation-wide including the highly-acclaimed Seattle International Film Festival and Atlanta Film Festival. She co-wrote the third edition of the textbook, Producing for TV and New Media and illustrated the book, Kathleen Turner on Acting: Conversations about Film, Television, and Theater. Marrying her love of design, music, and film, she founded the Bellingham Music Film Festival and frequently does design work for the local non-profit movie theater, Pickford Film Center. Kacey stays involved in discussions about the design field by attending and presenting at conferences and workshops internationally.

Alex Egner earned his BFA in Communication Design from the University of North Texas and, after working in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area as an advertising art director and graphic designer, obtained his MFA in Design: Visual Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University. His work has been exhibited, honored, and/or published by the American Advertising Federation, AIGA, Communication Arts, Creative Quarterly, Dallas Society of Visual Communications, Graphis, HOW Magazine, Logo Lounge, Print Magazine, and The Type Directors Club.

Brittany Schade is an Associate Professor of Interactive Design at Western Washington University. She earned her MFA and BFA in Graphic Design from Florida Atlantic University. Schade works within a variety of disciplines and mediums including digital product design, front-end development, branding, and illustration. Schade is a Principle at her design agency, Pretty Good. There she focuses on shaping stories through design systems and experiences for a diverse range of clients, big and small. She has contributed to articles on HOW Design Online and has been featured in Print Magazine. Schade enjoys traveling to design conferences to speak and meet new people. She also maintains a strong sketchbook game.
